A brief history of the early days of the Daimler and Lanchester Owners Club. (DLOC)
At a meeting in Birmingham of three Daimler owners in June, 1964, it was agreed that there was a need for a Club catering solely for the owners of Daimler and Lanchester cars and so the Club was formed. Now there are branches throughout this country and members resident in Australasia, Canada and the U.S.A. and in Scandinavia and other parts of Europe. The owners of B.S.A. cars equipped with fluid flywheel transmission are now also eligible for full membership.
Common to almost every B.S.A., Daimler and Lanchester Car post 1931 was the fluid flywheel transmission coupled to the epicyclic pre-selective gearbox. So distinctive was this feature that the fluid flywheel has been adopted to form the basis for the Club's badge
The principal aim of the Club is to bring members together for the exchange of experiences and information. A monthly magazine is published and meetings are held, varying from a "noggin an' natter" to a National Contours d' Elegance event. Meetings are organised on a regional basis and culminate in the National and Northern Rallies which include the main Concours and driving test events of the year. The facilities of the Club include a technical advice service, library containing obsolete manuals, spares, discount and other services.
That was back in the 1970's now
the
club boasts the most marvelous website
and many facilities for Daimler, Lanchester and BSA cars.
